Privacy Notice
Last updated 11 October 2026
There is exactly one place on this website where we collect personal information: the pilot enquiry form. This notice explains what we collect there, why, who sees it and what you can ask us to do about it.
It is written to meet section 18 of South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
The short version
- The only information we hold is what you type into the enquiry form.
- We use it to reply to you about a pilot. Nothing else.
- We don't sell it, trade it, or add you to a mailing list.
- This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking of any kind.
- Email taariq@phakamalabs.africa to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you.
Who is responsible
We are the responsible party for the information described here. Phakama Communication Labs (Pty) Ltd is a registered South African company, and its registered address forms part of the public CIPC record. For anything to do with this notice, email reaches us fastest.
What we collect
When you submit the pilot enquiry form, we receive:
- your name
- your organisation
- your work email address
- anything you write in the optional message field
- the pilot brief you selected — the audience and the focus
- the date and time you submitted it
The form also carries one or two small technical values whose only job is to filter out automated spam. They are not used to identify you, profile you, or track you.
That is everything. There is no account, no login, and no record of how you moved around the site before or after.
Why we collect it
To reply to your enquiry and talk to you about a possible pilot. That is the entire purpose.
We do not use your details for marketing, we do not add you to any list, and we do not share or sell them to anyone.
Do you have to give it to us?
No. Supplying your information is voluntary.
Name, organisation and email are marked as required on the form only because we cannot reply to you without them. The message field is optional. If you would rather not use the form at all, email us directly instead.
The only consequence of not providing your details is that we cannot contact you.
No law requires us to collect this information. We collect it because you asked us to get in touch.
Who sees it, and where it goes
Inside Phakama, your enquiry is seen by the two co-founders, Taariq Amod and Sifiso Ndovela. Nobody else.
We use two external providers to run the form and our email:
- Google — your enquiry is written to a private spreadsheet and triggers a notification to us.
- Zoho — our email is hosted here, so your enquiry and our reply sit in that mailbox.
Both act as operators under POPIA: they process the information on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Transfer outside South Africa. Google and Zoho both store and process data on servers outside South Africa, including in the United States and the European Union. We rely on their contractual data protection commitments, which require a level of protection comparable to POPIA. If you would prefer your details not to leave South Africa, email us rather than using the form and say so, and we will keep the exchange between our two mailboxes.
This website is hosted by Netlify, which serves the page to your browser. Netlify never receives anything you type into the form, although like any web host its servers log visitors' IP addresses.
How long we keep it
For as long as we are in active conversation with you, and for 24 months after our last contact. After that we delete the enquiry.
If you ask us to delete it sooner, we will.
Cookies and tracking
This website sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no tracking pixels and no advertising scripts. It loads no fonts, scripts or images from any third-party server — the entire page, fonts included, is served from our own domain.
Nothing on this site follows you anywhere.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- Correct or update anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Object to our processing it, at any time.
Email taariq@phakamalabs.africa and we will come back to you within a few working days. There is no charge for this.
If you are unhappy
Tell us first and we will try to put it right. If that doesn't resolve it, you have the right to complain directly to the Information Regulator:

Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. We will not start using information you have already given us for a materially different purpose without telling you first.
